Cancer Care at Trinity Health Michigan: Why Choose Us?

Trinity Health Michigan is the new brand identity of Mercy Health, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and all our associated Michigan-based medical groups. The same physicians, nurses and staff you trust continue to provide exceptional cancer care under our new name. And as part of Trinity Health, we’re backed by a world-class, national network of more than 90 hospitals across the country.

Our highly skilled cancer team delivers comprehensive care for people with all types of cancer. With cancer centers across Southeast and West Michigan, you can find cancer care close to home. Our program offers:

  • Expertise: You receive care from a skilled team, including experienced cancer surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists. Many of our physicians participate in leading cancer research, so they have the latest knowledge of effective and emerging treatments.

  • Clinical trials: For decades, we’ve been active in the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). NCORP is a renowned clinical trials network that delivers promising new therapies and advances the field of cancer care. Through this program, we can offer eligible patients the newest treatments before they’re widely available. Find out more about our clinical trials.

  • Collaboration: Our specialists work with experts across the state and country. We participate in tumor boards, where groups of cancer experts meet to discuss complex cases. And our West Michigan team is part of the Cancer Network of West Michigan, a joint venture between Trinity Health Michigan and University of Michigan Health – West. Learn more about the Cancer Network of West Michigan.

  • Complete care: Our team covers all your needs, from diagnosis to survivorship. We provide sophisticated treatments for all types of cancer, including rare and complex cancers. Find out more about the types of cancer we treat.

  • Nurse navigators: We connect you with a nurse navigator, your trusted partner and point of contact throughout your treatment. Your nurse navigator answers your questions, coordinates your care and helps make appointments. They assist you with the logistics so you can focus on getting better.

  • Personalized treatment: You receive a tailored care plan based on your diagnosis, genetics, age and lifestyle. This customized approach provides the most effective treatment while enhancing your quality of life. We may recommend nonsurgical options or minimally invasive procedures to get you back on your feet sooner. If you want to start a family after treatment, we discuss fertility preservation options.

Certain types of cancer run in families. Having this knowledge helps us plan the right care for you. We offer advanced genetic testing if you may have a genetic (inherited) cancer. We also offer genetic counseling to your biological family members who may be at risk of inherited cancers.

When you receive your genetic test results, you meet with our knowledgeable, compassionate genetic counselors, who explain the results and answer your questions. We combine your genetic tests with your medical needs and preferences to customize your treatment. Find out more about genetic counseling.

Radiation Oncology

Our team is highly experienced in radiation therapy, which kills cancer cells with targeted energy. We were the first in Michigan to offer CyberKnife® radiosurgery. This advanced radiation treatment targets tumors with pinpoint accuracy, preventing damage to surrounding tissue. Get more information about radiation therapy.

Surgical Oncology

Our experienced surgeons are specially trained in cancer biopsies and surgery to remove tumors. Whenever possible, we use minimally invasive and robotic surgery options, which use smaller incisions. These methods have a lower risk of complications, and you recover faster. Find out more about surgical oncology.

Supportive Care

Cancer treatment can cause stress and other emotions as you cope with the diagnosis and daily life. We have a full range of resources to help, including social workers, mental health professionals and spiritual care. Learn more about our supportive care for people with cancer.
