Labor and Delivery at Trinity Health Michigan: Why Choose Us?

Bringing new life into the world is a wonder, and we are honored to be part of your experience. We offer a range of services to help you have a safe, comfortable labor and delivery experience. And if problems arise during or after labor, our skilled team is equipped with the necessary resources to offer the highest level of care.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Expertise: You receive care from our highly trained obstetricians, certified nurse midwives (CNMs) and nurses, many with decades of experience. Our providers have certifications in electronic fetal monitoring, allowing us to keep a close eye on your baby.

  • Delivery options: We follow the latest research for safe vaginal and cesarean section deliveries. Some of our locations also care for women who wish to have a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

  • Advanced care: Our team includes providers who help women at risk for complications stay as healthy as possible. If your baby needs extra care, many of our locations have a special care nursery or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Hospitals without NICUs have dedicated teams to safely and immediately transport your baby to the nearest NICU. Find out more about our high-risk pregnancy and NICU services.

  • Modern labor and delivery rooms: We focus on providing a comforting, home-like atmosphere at our maternity hospitals. Your private room includes a labor shower or tub and plenty of space for your partner or support person. We also offer the latest pain relief methods so you can choose what’s right for you — from hydrotherapy to epidurals.

  • Baby-Friendly hospitals: Many of our hospitals have earned the Baby-Friendly Hospital accreditation, which requires rigorous standards from the World Health Organization (WHO). Hospitals with this designation have highly trained staff who support breastfeeding, baby care at your bedside and rooming in with baby.

  • Baby security: Our team puts your baby’s safety first. Soon after birth, we place a special wristband on your baby that is equipped with an electronic security sensor. We also require visitors to wear a special badge.

Special Services for a Positive Birth Experience

We’re here to help you have a safe, healthy and comfortable labor and delivery. We offer services that help you have the best possible birth experience, including:

  • Birth plans: Our OBs, nurses and midwives help you create a birth plan expressing your wishes for labor and delivery. When you come into the hospital in labor, we use that birth plan to customize your care. Learn more about our prenatal care and birth plans.

  • Nurse midwives: Some of our practices include certified nurse midwives (CNMs). These highly trained advanced practice nurses provide care and support through pregnancy, labor and delivery and the postpartum period. And if your needs change, our midwives work closely with obstetricians to help you deliver your baby.

  • Nitrous oxide: Our hospitals were among the first in the region to offer nitrous oxide. You inhale nitrous oxide through a mask, so it’s noninvasive. This special gas safely helps you relax and lowers your perception of pain during labor.

  • Hydrotherapy: Our birthing rooms and suites have specialize labor showers or tubs. The warm water soothes labor pains and helps you relax so you can save your energy for delivery.

  • Cord blood donation: At some of our hospitals, you can donate your baby’s umbilical cord blood after birth. Physicians use this donated cord blood to help treat certain cancers and blood diseases. If you’re interested in learning more about cord blood banking, ask your Trinity Health Michigan provider, nurse or midwife.
