Our Outpatient Therapy and Inpatient Rehabilitation Services

Rehabilitation and therapy services at Trinity Health Michigan include:

Physical Therapy

Licensed physical therapists develop personalized programs to help you regain strength, flexibility and range of motion. We deliver gentle care that minimizes discomfort to stiff or swollen tissue. Our services also include helping you safely transition back to daily activities and teaching you how to lower the risk of re-injury.

In addition, some physical therapists completed special training to help people get relief from complex conditions. These include balance issues and pelvic floor disorders that affect bladder and bowel control. Some of our services are not widely available. Read more about physical therapy.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps people with life-limiting illnesses or injuries make the most of their abilities. Compassionate therapists take time to get to know you and learn about the everyday tasks that are most important to you. We then deliver therapies that give you the best chances of managing them.

Care may include learning to use devices that help you walk, eat and bathe. We also offer specialized services that include driving assessments and low vision therapy. These services help you safely navigate your world, so you can feel confident getting around on your own. Get more information about occupational therapy.

Speech Therapy

Experienced speech therapists teach you new techniques for using your voice when neurologic and medical conditions affect your ability to speak. We frequently care for people with head and neck cancer, Alzheimer’s and stroke. Our services include assessments and treatments for people who are having difficulty swallowing.

Speech therapy also includes techniques for expressing yourself when words do not come easily. We offer cognitive training and language therapy to address deficits in areas of the brain that help you communicate. Find out more about speech therapy.

Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation (Rehab)

Many patients get better with outpatient rehab services. For severe illnesses or injuries, you may benefit from inpatient rehabilitation.

Trinity Health Michigan has six inpatient rehabilitation units, and extend services to the outpatient setting throughout our Michigan service areas. When it’s safe to leave the hospital, our team makes your transition to outpatient care as smooth as possible. Care coordinators explain the next steps of treatment, which often include outpatient rehabilitation.

Your provider may recommend outpatient rehab after a sickness or injury. This means you'll get one or more types (occupational, physical or speech) of therapy at a rehab clinic or facility. The goal of this rehab is to help you heal and get back to your everyday activities. And while many patients get better with outpatient rehab services, for severe illness or injuries, inpatient rehabilitation may be needed.
