Geriatric Medicine

Fellowship in West Michigan

Dear Resident,

Are you excited by the thought of innovating novel ways of providing health care for older adults? Do you believe that caring for older adults is a "team sport" and requires collaboration with interdisciplinary professionals? Do you wish you had more tools to effectively care for people with complex medical and psychosocial needs?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions and have had residency training in either internal medicine or family medicine, I invite you to consider furthering your postgraduate medical training by pursuing a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Mercy Health Geriatric Fellowship in Muskegon, Michigan.

About Our Program

Wherever you choose to care for the geriatric population, our fellowship will give you the knowledge and skills you need to provide person-centered, interdisciplinary team-based care for each of your older adult patients across the continuum of care.

You will deliver care in outpatient settings (as consultants and primary care providers), hospitals, retirement communities, assisted living facilities, long term care facilities and private residences. Rotations in the fellowship will include longitudinal and/or rotational experiences in all the previously mentioned locations, as well as experiences in Veterans Affairs Health System (Ann Arbor, MI), Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Neurology, Geriatric Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Wound Care.

The curriculum includes robust didactics, journal clubs and institutional access to Geriatrics Care Online, The American Geriatric Society's (AGS) online educational portal. You will be able to attend the AGS Annual Meeting andthe Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine's (formerly AMDA) annual conference.

I am the fellowship director and am board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. Core faculty includes three fellowship trained and/or board-certified geriatricians. We operate like family and support each other, as needed, both professionally and personally. We strongly believe that self-care is as important as patient care.
