Obstetrics and Gynecology

Thank you for your interest in the Trinity Health Muskegon, Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency.

The Trinity Health Medical Center serves the medical needs of the entire West Michigan community.

As a world-class destination for comprehensive health care, the new Trinity Health Medical Center is an energy-efficient, green facility comprised of 10 stories featuring 331 expansive, private patient rooms; an Emergency Department; state-of-the-art surgical and procedural areas; and a host of modern amenities and technologies.

Our Mission

The residency training program in obstetrics and gynecology will recruit, train and develop outstanding obstetrician-gynecologist physician leaders and advocates. Our program will instill residents with the confidence and independence required to proceed to the next step in their careers, as a generalist OB/GYN in community practice with flexibility in the structure of the educational experience to accommodate individual pursuit of academic practice or sub-specialty/research fellowship training.

OB/GYN Residents will train in a team-oriented environment in which they can build upon their strengths, developing into future leaders in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. They will learn to provide compassionate and comprehensive health care for a socioeconomically and culturally-diverse patient population directed by a dedicated and talented faculty and administrative staff working together to serve the mission and live the core values of our sponsoring organization.

Our Program

Our OB/GYN residency training program is a ACGME accredited four year program, which offers training in obstetrics, gynecology, gynecologic surgery, maternal fetal medicine, neonatology, neonatal intensive care, genetics, reproductive endocrinology, infertility, family planning, human sexuality, oncology, ultrasound, urogynecology, psychosomatics, and all other non-operative means of diagnosis through both didactic and clinical experience.

The birth center offers care all on one floor, with Labor & Delivery, and private and spacious post-recovery rooms all on the same floor. Other amenities include:

  • Birthing/triage/postpartum all on one floor
  • Spacious, private rooms
  • 2 ORs dedicated to OB/GYN
  • In-house OB/GYN, anesthesia, neonatal nurse practitioner 24 hours per day
  • Level 2 nursery (can deliver and care for premature babies)
  • Ultrasound room available on the same floor

Residents learn from consultations with perinatologists, neonatologists, and the case by case mentoring of the OB specialists. Childbirth preparation, sibling and breastfeeding support classes prepare the parents for delivery and care of the newborn.

Residency Clinic

Our program offers an OB High Risk Clinic which allows residents to provide prenatal care and delivery and co-manage patients with maternal fetal medicine specialists. The infant mortality rate in Muskegon County has dramatically decreased as a result of this clinic.

In the residency clinic, residents gain experience in managing patients in the areas of gynecology, gynecological surgery, in-office surgery, family planning, human sexuality, genetics, reproductive endocrinology, infertility, oncology and psychology.

The faculty continuously reviews and revises the curriculum to meet the changes in medical technology, hospital staff, community and education resources and the needs of the residents. The hospital and medical staff are committed to providing high quality programs, which enable graduates to enter confidently into the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

Program Diversity Statement
